So who is Richard E. Rock?

A few fun facts about me…

I worked for thirteen years (on and off) in the radio industry as a commercial scriptwriter. I have also in the past been a regular contributor to Viz Comic and newsthump.com (both under my mortal name of Rhydderch Wilson). Nowadays I prefer to concentrate on my novel writing endeavors. I have completed eight novels with two published (so far).

I’ve run the London Marathon three times. The first time was in 2004, the second in 2005 and the third in 2007. If I remember right, my fastest time was 03:45. I also ran the Cardiff Marathon a few times and scored a personal best of 03:33.

I’ve been an extra in a couple of Hollywood movies. The first was the 2010 version of Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and directed by Ridley Scott. I played one of the French soldiers in the climactic battle scene which was filmed on Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The second was Captain America: The First Avenger which was released in 2011. In that I played one of the Hydra Infantry in a scene filmed on an MOD base in Monmouthshire, Wales. I’ve also been a face in the crowd in a pop video: The Drowners (US version) by Suede.

When preparing Austrian food at home, I don a pair of lederhosen and blast out Tirolean folk music on the hi-fi. My girlfriend (who has a dirndl) and I love Austria and we visit the Tirol most years.

I have a degree in Painting and Drawing.

I once wrote a radio advertising campaign voiced by Joanna Lumley and attended the recording session with her in Soho, London. She was, at you might expect, delightful.

My mother was a jazz pianist, social historian, archivist and author. Her book, FREEDOM MUSIC by Jen Wilson, was published by University of Wales Press in 2019 and tells the story of how jazz music came to Wales.

I once flew to an Iron Maiden gig in Stockholm on a plane flown by their lead singer, Bruce Dickinson.

My passions include Norwegian Black Metal, Russian prison literature and Scooby Doo.

I deliberately induce nightmares with the intention of basing novels on them.
